Overview

The Principality of Monaco is a city-state on the north coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is the world's most densely populated sovereign country, as well as the world's smallest French speaking country. It is considered a tax haven, and a person could walk across the width of the country in just under an hour.

Languages

French is the official language of Monoco, but other languages spoken include Monegasque, Italian and English.

Economy

Monaco relies on tourism for much of its income, especially because of its world-famous casino, as well as its Mediterranean climate. Although not a member of the European Union, Monaco's currency is the Euro, the same as that of France. The country's key industries are tourism,  construction, small-scale industrial and consumer products, although it has no natural resources to speak of.

Culture

Music

The Monte Carlo Philharmonia Orchestra was founded in the 19th century and is still going today. It is world renowned and has been conducted by many famous conductors, such as Paray and Foster. The Grimaldi family, who have long been in charge of the country, have encouraged musical development, including the country's children's choir, the Little Singers of Monaco.

Sport

Popular sports in Monaco include Formula One, for example the Monaco Grand Prix and Monte Carlo Rally, football, rugby, tennis, golf and cycling.
