Overview

Libya, officially the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya is a country located in North Africa. Bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Libya lies between Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast, Chad and Niger to the south, and Algeria and Tunisia to the west.  Libya is the fourth largest country in Africa by area, and the 17th largest in the world.

Business Development

The nation of Libya depends heavily on income from its vast oil and petroleum reserves, in the 1980's when oils was discovered in Libya, it became of the richest countries in the world almost overnight.  The combination of rich oil reserves and a small population, give Libya one of the highest per capita incomes in the world and the highest in Africa, this has also allowed the Libyan state to provide an extensive level of social security, particularly in the fields of housing and education

Educational Advancements

In Libya, education is free for all citizens and is mandatory up until secondary level, they nation also can boast that they have the highest literacy rate in the world, with over  90% of the population being able to read and write.  Furthermore, over recent years, Libya has been able to greatly increase their number of Universities and the number of students attending these schools.

Languages and Dialects

The nation of Libya borrows its culture heavily from those nations around it and also from the Roman and Greek, as they were once part of the mighty Roman Empire, however Libyans consider themselves very much a part of a wider Arab community. The Libyan state tends to strengthen this feeling by considering Arabic as the only official language, and forbidding the teaching and even the use of the Berber language.

Cultural Background

Libya is culturally similar to its neighboring Maghrebian states. Libyans consider themselves very much a part of a wider Arab community. The Libyan state tends to strengthen this feeling by considering Arabic as the only official language, and forbidding the teaching and even the use of the Berber language. Libyan Arabs have a heritage in the traditions of the nomadic Bedouin and associate themselves with a particular Bedouin tribe.

Future Outlook

In the future, Libya will look to expand its economy through a varied number of industries, particularly their oil and energy industry.  Libya will also aim to maintain its high level of education and cultural heritage.  Libya already is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, due to their vast oil reserves and they hope that they will have continued economic success in the years to come.
