Overview
Comoros or The Comoros, officially the Union of the Comoros is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, located off the eastern coast of Africa on the northern end of the Mozambique Channel between northern Madagascar and northeastern Mozambique. The nearest countries to the Comoros are Mozambique, Tanzania, Madagascar, and the Seychelles. It is also the smallest and most southern nation of the Arab League, named after the Arab word for moon.
Languages and Dialects
Comorian is the most popular language in Comoros, also Shikomor, a descendant of Swahili with Arabic influences. Shingazidja, Shimwali, Shinzwani, and Shimaore are the local dialects spoken on the various islands of Comoros. Also, French and Arabic are official languages, along with Comorian. Malagasy is also spoken by a small number of Malagasy immigrants. Interestingly enough, Comorian has no script, therefore the people of Comoros use either a Latin variation script or the Arabic script.
Business Development
The government has stated that the improvement of the economy and raising the quality of life in Comoros are their main priorities. Agriculture, including fishing, hunting, and forestry is the leading sector of the economy, furthermore, nearly half of the entire labor force of Comoros are employed in the agricultural fields. Despite being a small island nation, Comoros's main export is vanilla, similar to their neighbour of Madagascar. In fact, they are the world's second producer and exporter of Vanilla, only second to Madagascar.
Future Development
In the future, Comoros looks to expand its economy, both in the agricultural and manufacturing industries as well. Comoros will also look to maintain its exportation of Vanilla, while competing closely with Madagascar, the world leader. The island will also look to create and develop a tourism industry, in order to capitalise on the tremendous wealth of natural beauty and wonders that Comoros has to offer.
